Wolverine’s Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins to Star in John Carter of Mars
Looks like Disney has landed their John Carter and his love interest, Dejah Thoris, and they both happen to have just co-starred in this summer’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” together. Though the two never shared a scene in the entire movie, or indeed knew of each other’s existence, they’ll be doing a lot of bonding when Taylor Kitsch (Gambit in “Wolverine”) and Lynn Collins (Silverfox) take the male and female leads respectively in Disney’s “John Carter of Mars” for former Pixar man Andrew Stanton, who will be making his live-action directorial debut with the movie.
THR says “Carter” will follow John Carter (Kitsch), a civil war veteran who finds himself mysteriously transported to Mars, where his involvement with warring races of the dying planet force him to rediscover his humanity. On Mars, he also meets Dejah Thoris (Collins), who is heir to the throne of Mars’ Helium kingdom, and his future lover.
Disney has big plans for “John Carter”, and if Kitsch and Collins play it right, they’ll be fronting a major Disney franchise for years to come ala the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies, which did a thing or two for its stars if I recall. Stanton will direct from a script he wrote with Mark Andrews.
