William Shatner Thinks He Sucks

Sci-Fi Movie News, Sci-Fi Odds and Ends, Star Trek Universe — By Nix on February 12, 2008

I must admit to having a bit of a warped perspective on William Shatner. You see, every now and then I’ll see Shatner show up on my local TV channel doing advertising for a local law firm. Yes, William Shatner is now doing TV commercials for local law firms. Anyhoo. William Shatner apparently doesn’t think too highly of himself, either. Or at least, his acting.

More:

It was voiced by none other then Captain Kirk himself in an interview for his video blog (via The Telegraph). The money quote:

“I never watched Star Trek.”
“I have not even seen any of the Star Trek movies. I don’t watch myself.
“When I direct and have to look at filmed scenes of myself, I suck.”

Yikes. And Bill wonders why J.J. Abrams simply refuses to give him a cameo in the latest Trek 11 film…

He’s lost his edge. It’s an inherent problem with actors — grownups acting is really kind of silly. If an actor realizes that, it takes his heart out of the work. Thereafter, it’s just scrounging for paycheck jobs. Shatner’s work after the 1st season of the original Star Trek series has been progressively more and more self-parody. Look at any of his recent interviews and you’ll see he’s just embarrassed to be there (but it’s a paycheck). Too bad.
