William Shatner MAY do a Cameo in Trek 11

Anyone who is even mildly interested in science fiction has probably heard all the stories about William Shatner acting incredibly desperate to get himself a cameo in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Trek 11 movie. It’s getting a little sad, actually, but then again, we are talking about William Shatner here, and looking sad hasn’t exactly been something he’s shied away from. Now comes news that, Yes, maybe, Bill as Kirk might happen in Trek 11. Maybe.

Trek 11 writer Roberto Orci told Sci Fi Wire this:

“There are two things,” Orci said in an interview in November. “One, from our point of view, we are still hoping to find a way. Secondly, one of the difficulties that was brought up and discussed with Shatner when we all met him and pitched him ideas is that Trek fans are sticklers for their canon. [And,] unfortunately, Shatner’s Capt. Kirk was killed in Star Trek VII [1994's Generations].”

Um, okay, so you didn’t want to bring him back because he died? Dude, this is Star Trek, no one ever stays dead, and everyone has a twin or a parallel doppelganger or something. Give us a break with that excuse.

He goes on:

“The difficulty there is not just ignoring that or explaining it in an unsatisfactory way merely to get him back in,” Orci said. “So that is the struggle: the rigors of canon and not phoning it in just to have a cameo.” Still, it could happen, he said. “From my point of view, it’s a very long shoot, and things change. It’s just whether we can figure it out.”

So he’s basically saying, “Yeah, we may bring him back, but, um, don’t count on it.” Or something to that affect. Translation: Shatner fans shouldn’t expect to see Shatner as Kirk in Trek 11.
