That’s the word on the street this morning. As you may well know, delicious portions of The Dark Knight (The Bank Robbery Scene as an example) were shot in the native Imax format and looked simply stunning. According to Harry at Aintitcool, Mr. Nolan is considering shooting the entirety of the next Batman film in this format.
Now, the problem is that Imax cameras are really, really difficult to shoot film with. I’ve included a picture below of a rig. Also, there just aren’t a lot of these things lying around. You’d need a pile of these to shoot an entire movie and there are other production considerations like how long long it takes to reload film, etc.
It’s all very interesting. Maybe Chris is taking a break from Batman to make Inception while another advance in Imax cameras is happening? If Chris Nolan hinted to Imax camera manufacturers that he wanted to make an entire big release movie all in Imax, it would be a terrific incentive for them to build a better and more easy to use camera. I can just imagine that others would jump on the chance to make a film look as fantastic as a 100% Imax Batman would look. Just speculating. Anyways, thanks Harry over at Aintitcool for the news.
