Roland Emmerich is the reining King of disaster porn. His movies, such as Independence Day, Godzilla and the upcoming 2012, are unchallenged in the cinematic world of Sci-Fi destruction. As fans, we hail him. Roland understands the itch he scratches can only be truly satisfied by rolling buildings, tumbling aircraft carriers or rampaging super monsters. Disaster movies are a very important genre and the art is in excellent hands with Mr. Emmerich.
So what is Mr. Emmerich planing to blow up next? ComingSoon has learned, in an exclusive interview, that Roland is planning to adapt Issac Asimiov’s “Foundation” series of books into perhaps three feature films and has hired Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan, The Patriot) to write a screenplay. “Foundation” is a story about a mathematician that figures out a formula for accurately predicting the future and creates an organization that is designed to help steer humanity through the dark and troubled times that the math envisions by preserving human knowledge.
It’s a great series of books but I don’t recall very much blowing up. I’ll have to dig them out of storage. With Rodat writing, perhaps fans of quiet, cerebral Sci-Fi can rest a little easier. Thanks again to ComingSoon for the scoop.
