Warren Ellis’ Ocean Movie Gets a Writer

I have the complete Warren Ellis mini-series “Ocean” sitting on my desk, but have yet to get to it. I plan to do so as the movie’s production revs up, which today includes the announcement by Warner Bros. that a writer has been assigned to adapt the science fiction series for the big screen. The man is Hollywood noob Ryan Condal (“Galahad”), who will have the unenviable task of trying to match Ellis’ writing and Chris Sprouse’ artwork. Well, just the writing, anyway.

More about the odd story from The Hollywood Reporter:

The story revolves around the discovery of thousands of coffins containing angel-like bodies and a giant weapon of mass destruction beneath the ice on Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons. A U.N. weapons inspector is sent to investigate the find, teaming with a space station crew, when a powerful conglomerate moves in to exploit the discovery.

Nick Wechsler and Hollywood Gang’s Gianni Nunnari, who are also bringing Frank Miller’s limited series “Ronin” to the big screen, will produce “Ocean” for the WB.
