Wait, There Were Female Rebel Pilots in Star Wars?
Turns out yeah, grrl power was alive and well during the Rebellion.
Except George Lucas decided to cut out scenes with female Rebel pilots during the original trilogy because, fans speculate, their fiery, cockpit deaths during the climactic battles would be too traumatic for audiences. Which is highly sexist if you ask me — what, dudes frying to death is A-okay? Whatever, girls.
Anyways, here are proof that the Rebel Alliance was actually an equal opportunity rebellion, courtesy of the recently released “Star Wars” Blu-ray editions (one of the female pilots — the one in green — apparently made it into the movie, but was dubbed over with a male voice):
