USA Network Cancels The 4400, The Dead Zone

Sci-Fi TV News, The 4400 TV Series, The Dead Zone TV Series — By Nix on December 19, 2007

For some reason, I was never to really get into The 4400. I don’t know why, because the whole premise should really appeal to me — 4400 people, abducted from different timelines, suddenly all return to the present with superpowers. I mean, that’s a great premise! But alas, I never got into it, and now news comes that the show has been cancelled by the USA Network.

More:

A message board post on “The 4400’s” official boards presumably from show creator Scott Peters says that while he’s sad about the cancellation, at least the show was able to go out with “a bang.”

“We’ve had a great time bringing you this story and submersing you in the lives of all these incredible characters,” Peters said in the post. “Let me raise my metaphorical glass to you all and thank you for being so loyal and so dedicated. I wish we could go on forever, but the party has come to an end.”

Sorry, 4400 fans.

The Dead Zone, on the other hand, I’ve watched on and off, and really liked. But like The 4400, I wasn’t really a loyal fan and didn’t tune in week after week. I would watch it if I caught it while channel surfing, but that was it. It, too, has been cancelled according to TV Guide.

  • I’m not surprised about the 4400 cancellation. That show was REALLY good for the first two seasons, then started to fragment and spin out of control much in the way Heroes is now doing. I gave up on it last season (4?) because they seemed to be taking the shotgun approach to storytelling.

I am surprised about Dead Zone though. I was never a huge fan but my wife loves the show…isn’t it in like its 6th or 7th season? I guess there’s only so many times the guy can save the world/people/etc using his powers. That show’s biggest fault IMHO was that the way they explored his powers and what he could do kept sort of growing and expanding – the guy should have ruled the world with a gift like that.
