This shows mgm (http://stargate.mgm.com/) that there is a future in SG1 movies. DVD sales brought back Family Guy and Futurama. Ark of Truth will most certainly be worth the buy anyway. The hope is they can do DVD releases that will cover most of the cost of production. We can see this also happening with the return of Futurama. What i love about this is it is now MUCH simpler to support the show you love. Just buy the damn DVD, that is what they are watching for. Right now i think MGM (and others) are working hard to find a more profitable way to distribute niche shows like Stargate.
