UK’s Sky One to air Stargate: Ark of Truth in March

Well this kinda sucks. While American Stargate fans had to go out and buy their own DVD copy of the Stargate DVD movie, “The Ark of Truth”, UK viewers will be getting the movie for free. Yup, it’s true. The UK’s Sky One will premiere the movie on Wednesday, March 26 at 8 p.m., a mere two weeks after the movie’s U.S. DVD release. And if they liked it, they can then buy the DVD in the UK on April 14.

More:

The Ark of Truth stars SG-1′s Ben Browder, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, Claudia Black, and Beau Bridges in a story that spans the galaxies. With our own galaxy under seige by the armies of the Ori — powerful ascended beings who demand worship from “lower” life forms — SG-1 must take the Odyssey through the Supergate into the enemy’s own territory. There they hope to find a device created by the Ancients millennia ago, which they hope will stop the Ori worshipers from killing millions of innocents.

Meanwhile, U.S. Stargate fans can get the movie on DVD March 11th. No word on a free airing on the Sci Fi Channel, though, and it’s probably going to be a while.

Right now i think MGM (and others) are working hard to find a more profitable way to distribute niche shows like Stargate.

The hope is they can do DVD releases that will cover most of the cost of production. We can see this also happening with the return of Futurama.

What i love about this is it is now MUCH simpler to support the show you love. Just buy the damn DVD, that is what they are watching for.

I agree with Cameron, UK and US fans should buy the DVD no matter what. This shows mgm (http://stargate.mgm.com/) that there is a future in SG1 movies. DVD sales brought back Family Guy and Futurama. Ark of Truth will most certainly be worth the buy anyway.
