God you are so right. This is quite possibly the dumbest thing the Stargate franchise has done after killing off Carson in SGA (which they also got a LOT of criticism for).

I understand that they want to branch out from the wholesome upbeat feeling of SG-1 and SGA, but this just doesn’t feel like a Stargate show at all. These are supposed to be dramatic comedies (or something like that). Now it’s just a bunch of terrible actors yelling at each other and crying incessantly. I love Battlestar Galactica, I was obsessed with it before I was even introduced to Stargate. And I love LOST. It’s my weekly dose of drama and heavy background music. Put together they don’t work out so well, ESPECIALLY when trying to follow the “brightness” of SG-1 and SGA.

What they should’ve done is kept SGA going while they introduced SGU. Depending on how good the reaction was to the new series, either weaned loyal viewers off of SGA or gotten rid of SGU. Now they just have pissed off fans trying to wrap their heads around this terrible new series.

And honestly, I think they started the first blunder when they cancelled SG-1 which is still by far the best of the 3.

So… yeah. Rant over.

Well, after a couple of episodes, I was no longer able to stomach Stargate Universe. The show has totally strayed from what the Stargate franchise stands for: adventure, action and convincing fictional scientific prowess. SG-1 and SGA had all of these woven into a very engaging story line. SGU has wandered into very dark themes, following the misguided footsteps of Battlestar Galactica and thus completely lost its way. Hardcore sci-fi fans are not particularly interested in heavy drama, political intrigue and power struggles. I really don’t know what the producers of SGU were thinking. The show is really terrible from my point of view. I am not sure it can be salvaged. Thumbs down to it!

This show has gone DOWNHILL. Long time viewer and owner of all SG-1 series and SG Atlantis series. What are you guys doing? I have seen increase in sex and homosexualism in this show. There is NO need for this in this show. No longer support or purchase anymore DVD’s of this show. NO LONGER a VIEWER of SGU. Removed it from my TIVO.

“It is a chick-flick/soap opera not worthy of the franchise.” It’s not even decent chick-flick/soap opera material. The show just plain sucks. They clearly forgot the “science” part of science fiction. In episode 9, they finally get around to actually exploring the ship, find a chair of some interest and then…..nothing happens with it!!! You’ve got to be kidding me – the “greatest discovery since the stargate” and it takes them 9 episodes to explore the ship and then do nothing with the what the discover. Instead we get treated to more soap opera including homosexual scenes! Way to reach the broadest audience.

The show is beyond saving, kill it now while they still have some credibility from past works, this show is a dull, uninteresting pile of you know what.

A tragic misfire by this group of miscast writers and line producer. Show is in desperate need of a major re-engineering after this season closes. If Bonnie Hammer is willing to give this show another season to correct itself, it will definitely mean the removal of the show runner, a rejiggering of the producer ranks, and an entirely new direction for season two’s A story. So little of worth transpires in season one, it feels almost like an improv troupe got hold of set pieces from Galactica and decided to stage a sci-fi themed homage to day time soap opera.

I empathize with the cast and crew here, who were clearly handed a bag of crap and asked to make souflee with it. Carslyle, Ming Na, and the rest of this Gilligan’s Island entourage must be suffering a great deal, their agents perhaps even more so.

I just registered to say I just watched the last episode, called “Earth” and…
Okay, first episode I made an effort to watch the premier, since then I’ve been recording the series and watching it a day or two later.

After watching this episode, I will no longer even be recording it. Oh and by the way, I searched google for “stargate universe sucks” this is the first result. So true.

I agree: Dr. Rush's long hair looks totally greasy, a fact which does not make him endearing. And in a televison series, an audience needs to be able to identify or at least empathesize somewhat with some of the characters. So far I'm just watching, somewhat bored.
And unlike the author of this blog, I don't find the grimness of the setting necessary to suspend disbelief. Dark isn't necessarily better; it just makes it difficult to see. (Then again, I wasn't a huge fan of “Galactica,” or even that futuristic cult favorite, “Blade Runner”.)
