There is no surprise that the Powers That Be are gearing up a “Transformers 2″ with Michael Bay (excitedly) back behind the cameras. Why wouldn’t they? It was a major hit when it opened last year, and it’ll be an even bigger hit when the sequel finally gets released, either in 2009 or 2010. Word is, the latter is more likely.

More:

The Hollywood Reporter is, erm, reporting that Transformers 2 has been shunted from its June 26th 2009 release date. There’s no confirmed reason given, but it wouldn’t take a genius detective to surmise that the ongoing writer’s strike could stall the movie. Transformers 2 is said to have a script, but unless that script is absolutely locked, then the movie can’t go ahead, as no changes can be made.

2009 or 2010 — doesn’t matter to me, as long as Bay is back, and the robots are as kickass as before.

Here’s what Bay said at his own blog:

For the millions of viewers that logged on this year I want to thank you for the support. Transformers 2 will be coming soon. The new robots are really really unique and there are a lot of them this time.

Damn I want to see this sequel!
