Apparently whoever shot the movie “Red Faction: Origins” for the SyFy Channel took their job pretty seriously, because it actually looks pretty darn decent. Or at least, it doesn’t look like the same kind of ridiculous shlock that the network usually foists upon its viewers. (“Almighty Thor”, anyone?) Check out the trailer for the film below.
Based on the bestselling videogame “Red Faction”, “Origins” stars “Stargate: Universe’s” Brian J. Smith as Jake, the hero and son of the legendary Alec Mason (Robert Patrick). According to Wikipedia, the movie takes place between the events of the “Red Faction: Guerilla” and the upcoming “Red Faction: Armageddon” games.
The film takes place twenty-five years after the events of Red Faction: Guerilla, when Alec Mason led the Red Faction and the Martian Colonies to freedom. Soon after Alec Mason started a family with his compatriot Samanya. However, thirteen years after the liberation of Mars, Alec Mason’s vengeful enemies killed his wife Samanya and kidnapped his daughter Lyra leaving a broken hero left in its wake.
The film follows the adventures of Jake Mason, the last remaining son of hero Alec Mason, who is now an officer in the Red Faction, the movement which liberated Mars 25 years ago from the oppressive Earth Defense Force which almost decimated the civilian population on Mars. He discovers that his sister who was kidnapped 12 years ago is still alive, he then journeys out to locate her as a new powerful enemy sweeps through the surface of Mars. However, when he finds her he discovers that she is now one of the enemy, a cold-blooded soldier who has sworn to destroy the Red Faction.
Also starring Kate Vernon, Gareth David-Lloyd, Tamzin Merchant, Devon Graye, and Danielle Nicolet. The movie premieres on the SyFy Channel Saturday, June 4 at 9/8c.
