Torchwood’s John Barrowman Bears his Fruits and Nuts on the BBC

Wow, I have to admit, I’ve heard of something like this happening on American radio/TV before, but usually it’s got the words “Howard Stern” somewhere in the title. I certainly didn’t think an organization as supposedly “legit” as the BBC would have a radio show where the host encouraged the celebrity guest to whip out his johnson for his female co-host to scream at. But lo and behold, it did happen, and John Barrowman of Torchwood and Doctor Who fame (and who as recently as a few months ago was rumored to be in the running for Steve Rogers in the upcoming Captain America movie) was the guy who did the whipping.
Check out this article from the Hollywood Reporter. Pure Captain Jack? You decide.
BBC Radio was forced to issue yet another apology Tuesday for failing to control its staff and stars, after “Torchwood” and “Doctor Who” star John Barrowman exposed himself on a live Radio 1 show that also was video streamed over the Internet.
The incident, in which Radio 1 host Nick Grimshaw urged the actor to expose his genitals, aired live Sunday night and generated one complaint to the BBC.
In a raucous interview with Barrowman reported by wire services, Grimshaw said: “You’re famous, we’re told, for getting your willy out in interviews. Is this going to happen today? Should Annie (Mac, the show’s co-host) be careful?”
Barrowman then asked if the webcam was on, and when told that it was broadcasting live video, he said: “All right, I’ll get it out for you then. No problem.”
The show’s producer moved to obscure the webcam, but listeners and viewers heard Mac screaming “Oh my God!” as Barrowman and Grimshaw laughed.
Barrowman was then heard to say, “I didn’t take the whole thing out, but I got my fruit and nuts out.”
Needless to say, Barrowman quickly issued one of those blanket “If I have offended anyone” apology. You know, the kind of template apology that celebrity agents keep in their desk drawer by the thousands?
I thought it was kind of silly myself, and on the BBC, to boot. Wow.
