Tobey Maguire to Produce Post-Apocalyptic Afterburn
- 0 comments
I love me a good old-fashion post-apocalyptic movie. Just ask anyone who knows me. Heck, I’m even one of the few people that liked Kevin Costner’s “Waterworld” and “The Postman”. Yes, I liked both movies. So what of it? The latest post-apocalyptic movie headed to the big screen is “Afterburn”, based on a comic book (pictured, below) by Paul Ens and Scott Chitwood from new comics company Red 5 Comics. And none other than Tobey Maguire (pictured, left), Spider-Man himself, is planning on ushering the comics into a movie, and will be producing with partner Neal Moritz.
More:
The book, whose first issue hit stands in January, is a sci-fi adventure set against the backdrop of a postapocalyptic Earth, whose Eastern Hemisphere was destroyed by a massive solar flare, leaving what life remains mutated from radiation and fallout. The story revolves around a group of treasure hunters who for the right price extract such objects as the Mona Lisa, the Rosetta Stone and the Crown Jewels while facing rival hunters, mutants and pirates along the way.
Great premise, huh? Action, sci-fi, and plenty of room for horror to boot.
There is no word if Maguire will also star, but it doesn’t look likely. He’s already heavily committed to another sci-fi project — a live-action version of “Robotech”, which he plans to produce and star. As you can imagine, that’s gonna be a major undertaking.
