Tobey Maguire to Produce Post-Apocalyptic Afterburn

I love me a good old-fashion post-apocalyptic movie. Just ask anyone who knows me. Heck, I’m even one of the few people that liked Kevin Costner’s “Waterworld” and “The Postman”. Yes, I liked both movies. So what of it? The latest post-apocalyptic movie headed to the big screen is “Afterburn”, based on a comic book (pictured, below) by Paul Ens and Scott Chitwood from new comics company Red 5 Comics. And none other than Tobey Maguire (pictured, left), Spider-Man himself, is planning on ushering the comics into a movie, and will be producing with partner Neal Moritz.

More:

The book, whose first issue hit stands in January, is a sci-fi adventure set against the backdrop of a postapocalyptic Earth, whose Eastern Hemisphere was destroyed by a massive solar flare, leaving what life remains mutated from radiation and fallout. The story revolves around a group of treasure hunters who for the right price extract such objects as the Mona Lisa, the Rosetta Stone and the Crown Jewels while facing rival hunters, mutants and pirates along the way.

Great premise, huh? Action, sci-fi, and plenty of room for horror to boot.

There is no word if Maguire will also star, but it doesn’t look likely. He’s already heavily committed to another sci-fi project — a live-action version of “Robotech”, which he plans to produce and star. As you can imagine, that’s gonna be a major undertaking.

I liked both of the Costner movies also but the classic cliche of “the book was better” still stands. As for Maguire starring in the Robotech Live Action, I am sorry, He is a good actor but,….If he screws it up he is going to hell. It is that simple. That being said it had better be so good that AVATAR can’t hold a candle to it’s shadow. This franchise has fanboys going all the way back to the very beggining (almost 30 years ago) that will be super critical and you can’t please all people all the time no matter what. This is not a normal “Enormous” undertaking. This is an “EPIC” undertaking greater than the likes of LOTR. There is so much to this multi-generational, galaxy-spanning story that once you start you can’t stop. So please, I am begging you, Keep it simple and stay true to the original story (as much as you can with out it getting too butchered by Hollywoodisms).rnrnAfter all of that i wait anxiously and excitedly like the kid who can’t sleep on Christmas Eve and just for the record when it does come out I have already told my wife that no matter what if she tries to stop me from going to see it i will divorce her, throw her out, declare bankruptcy, and burn the house down after i suspend all home owner insurance policies.
