There is a God: The Graysons is D.O.A.
Sci-Fi TV News, The Graysons TV Series — By Nix on November 7, 2008 |
Oh Thank God. Someone came to their senses and decided not to go through with the proposed The Graysons TV series, the show that was going to go all Smallville on Batman’s sidekick, Dick Grayson, aka Robin. The proposed show was supposed to replace Smallville once that aging show went off the CW air, and would follow a teen Dick Grayson, or as he’s known in the show, “DJ” (yeah, WTF is right), as he learns about life, love, and other retarded stuff that people who watch the CW for anything other than Supernatural and Smallville care about. But have no fear, it’s been yanked!
Variety has the good news:
The CW and Warner Bros. TV have been forced to scrap their plans for “The Graysons.” Show, which had been given a put pilot commitment, was set to revolve around Batman sidekick Robin in his pre-Caped Crusader days.
Decision to yank the project came from Warner Bros. Pictures Group prexy Jeff Robinov, who initially gave his blessing but changed his mind in recent days.
“Warner Bros. TV never had 100% clearance,” said one exec familiar with the project.
One of the reasons for the show’s demise seems to be the success of Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies. One version of the story has Nolan and the Powers That Be at Warner Bros. being uncomfortable with having a Batman Universe character running around on TV while the movie franchise is still going strong, while another story just has Robinov change his mind.
Either way, can I get an “Amen”!
Below: Still want some Dick Grayson? This is probably 100% better than what they would have ended up with on the CW.

This was good news. There are a ton of D.C. Universe characters that they could make quality TV shows about, particularly the non-powered ones, like Green Arrow. And what about a “Nightwing” series? That could be cool.
I just think it was a bad idea from the start. I think the Flash would be a good DC character to relaunch. NOT the too-young Oliver Twist version from Smallville, but they could do a series about Barry Allen. I guess a Flash film is still being kicked around in Hollywood though.
