Bless the people at The Asylum. It’s easy to pick on them and say that all they’re trying to do is cash in on a hot movie, but let’s face it, it takes a lot of balls to do what The Asylum does every year, which is to co-opt the title and look of an upcoming big-budget Hollywood movie with mega buzz with your own familiar-sounding title. The latest is “The Terminators”, not to be confused with McG’s upcoming “Terminator Salvation”, though by the box cover (left) and the title, you might fall for it if you were, let’s say, drunk or kind of stupid. Apparently there are a lot of very drunk and kind of stupid videostore renters, because The Asylum has been around for a while now, and shows no signs of slowing down.
So here’s the trailer for their latest: “The Terminators”. The official plot talks about a small band of resistance fighters battling cyborgs that have taken control of the planet. This, apparently, involves running around shooting it out with said cyborgs in open fields and spaceship duels in outer space. Hey, at least their special effects have gotten better. Either that, or they just showed us all they could afford in this 1-minute trailer.
The film stars Jeremy London, Paul Logan, and A. Martinez, and is directed by Xavier Puslowski. You can either buy the DVD or catch it when it lands on The Sci Fi Channel, which invariably it will.
