Need a futuristic savior? Heck, you can’t do any better than Will Smith, if previous sci-fi action films have taught us anything. He’s saved us from alien invaders countless times (“Independence Day”, the “Men in Black” films), vampires (“I am Legend”), and killer robots (“I, Robot”), and now Will Smith will save us again in M. Night Shaymalan’s “After Earth”.
And it’s not just Smith, either; he’s bringing along his son Jaden Smith to lend a hand. Father and son will be starring in “After Earth” as, well, father and son.
Says THR:
The story is set in a future in which humans no longer live on Earth after it becomes inhospitable. The elder Smith is playing a hero, while Jaden is his son, considered a failure as a warrior. When the two crash-land on Earth, it’s up to the son to save the dad.
The film, set to start shooting sometime in March, also includes Zoe Kravitz, Sophie Okonedo, and “Orphan” and “Hunger Games” actress Isabelle Fuhrman in the cast.
Shyamalan, coming off the disaster that is “The Last Airbender”, will be directing.
