The Scott Brothers Unite For A Blade Runner(ish) Web Series
Sci-Fi Movie News — By endymi0n on June 5, 2009Loyal as I hope you are to my daily ramblings, you are well aware of my Blade Runner “issue”. The movie is a moderate obsession of mine. I’m not certifiable (yet), but I have gone way past the spouse eye rolling level of nerdness.
So, it is a happy Friday where I can learn that the Scott brothers, Ridley and Tony, are teaming up via their RSA films group to produce a web series called “Purefold”, said to be in the spirit of the mighty, mighty Blade Runner. Neither Ridley nor Tony owns any rights to Blade Runner so they will have to use it as inspiration. The web films will be shorts and run about 10 minutes each. The first to run in the summer.
A quote from Ag8’s David Bausola, a man in production.
“We don’t take any of the canon or copyrighted assets from the movie,” says “It’s actually based on the same themes as ‘Blade Runner.’ It’s the search for what it means to be human and understanding the notion of empathy. We are inspired by ‘Blade Runner.’”
The story will begin just a few years into our future then eventually merge into the Blade Runner timeline. If the web series is successful it might make it’s way to television. On the copyright issue, time for whoever has it to give it up. At least George Lucas makes new material, even if it is often, ah, misguided. Thanks MTV.
