What’s that old saying: meet the new boss, same as the old boss? Or in this case, meet the new Sci Fi Channel, different spelling, same pronunciation. For a while now, it’s been known that the basic cable channel has been attempting to rebrand itself beyond its sci-fi base, and was headed in more genre territory as a whole. It’s already started that with its growing reality TV programming.
According to The Live Feed, the channel will make the name official in July of this year, about the same time it launches its new show, Warehouse 13, about two FBI investigating the paranormal out of a warehouse, i.e. The X-Files in a Warehouse.
The Sci Fi Channel stresses that this doesn’t mean they’re dumping their sci-fi fans like an ugly girl who got asked to the prom, and upon arriving, dumps her date for the captain of the football team. Besides Warehouse 13, the channel will also be launching the Battlestar Galactica prequel series, Caprica this year. Plus there’s the new Stargate show, Universe, aka Stargate 90210.
