The Next Star Trek Will Have A Better Villain

While “Star Trek” was, on the whole, a pretty awesome affair, there were a few troublesome moments. The whole ditch Kirk out a porthole onto the Planet Of The Old Spock thing had a faint odour of cheese and I’m afraid Nero the misunderstood villain was a .1 on the tribble scale of soft and fluffy.

There needs to be a change for the upcoming sequel, now scheduled for landing on June 29th, 2012. Kurtzman and Orci, screen writers of the first and future writers of the second, agree that for number 2, the villain has to bring the naughty space sauce.

Kurtzman in his own words:

I think our idea on this is that the first of any series is about them coming together or the formation. I couldn’t really tell you what Jeff Bridges was doing in Iron Man, but it doesn’t matter at all because it is all about Iron Man becoming Iron Man. Whereas I think sequels are very much about the villain. Because while [in the first film] the villain serves to bring the crew together, the second one I think has to be a true challenging of what that family is about. That is why Wrath of Khan was so amazing. Khan tested each one of them and ultimately asked for the [ultimate] sacrifice, and that is why that movie held up so well.

The villain for the next movie is going to be Khan. Get used to it. You need a mighty strong actor for this part. I’m very interested to see who it will be. Thanks io9 for the tip.

    two words…Paul Bettany

  • HelpMeSpock

Bettany is an interesting idea. He’s very white but he’s a great actor whose shown the play the scary role well.

Yeah, the Rock…might be tough for an audience to take him seriously.

More fodder for discussion purposes… Benecio Del Toro. Again seeing Moe play Khan could leave audiences confused.

an unknown might work but usually the really good bad guy unknowns might be foreign actors not known here but well known some where else like Mads M., Javier Bardem.

Another great actor who might be a good Khan candidate is Cliff Curtis. He’s the right age, has the height and physicality (if he buffs up a tad) and shown significant range with intensity as both an antagonist and real baddy. The other good thing about Curtis is that he probably can pass as person from India. Curtis has played a variety of ethnicities including Middle Eastern. His scene in Training Day is what made the movie and defined what Denzel’s character really was.

I think Kahn would be a great villain but there is one thing for certain, you have to have a real villain that looks like he is very threatening and looks more like a military figure such as in the later Star treks like in Under discovered Country that had General Chang who look and acted like a villain. I would like to see Shatner play Kirk as a cameo role in some way, there are many of us Star Trek Fans that still have a fondness with him in the Captain. I would see any Star Trek movie that comes next. Having another Federation ship or two would be very cool to to add flavor to the story. There are so many possibilities for story lines and what a great future for more Star Trek. You just have to keep the writers from the TNG movies that really done as soap opera’s in space, insurrection, did not like.

Whats with the Romulan thing lately? bring back the Xindi or hell bring back some other creature. Oh and why didn’t Nero look like a romulan? They didn’t even try to explain it! Why don’t romulan supervillans ever look romulan? The remans looked cool in the last TNG movie but what happened to good ole green warbirds and cloaking devices? I realize that Nero came from sometime in the near future of the last TNG movie but what are these huge ugly pile of garbage looking romulan ships? the last two romulans ships have looked like hairballs that I pulled out of the bathtub drain. Ok one last gripe then im done for today, I really hope if they ever redo the Excelsior or the Reliant that they dont make those ships look as cartoonish as the new Enterprise looks. somebody get back to me on that!

    Harvey Fierstein as Khan…………

I hope they use Kodos. Not anywhere near as iconic as Khan, so they don't have to worry about fans complaining about the new guy's portrayal, but still has potential to be a great villain. There was so little done with the whole Kodos and Tarsus stuff in TOS, so they've got a lot they can work with.

IT IS NOT KHAN, Bob Orci said that he does not want Khan and will not include Khan in the sequel. It will most likely be Gary Mitchell or the Gorn.
