All that buzz, all that Comic Con gushing, it all went away when the first trailer for James Cameron’s “Avatar” landed online three months ago with quite possibly the biggest THUD in modern cinema. Let’s face it, it was kind of underwhelming. It was overly cartoony and obviously CG and nothing about it screamed “best movie of the year”. So has that changed with this second trailer? Judge for yourself.
A band of humans are pitted in a battle against an alien planet’s indigenous population for the planet’s rare natural resources. A human soldier, brought to spy on the aliens, decides to switch loyalties and fight with the aliens instead.
Starring Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, CCH Pounder, Stephen Lang, Joel Moore, Dileep Rao, Wes Studi, Laz Alonso, Peter Mensah, and directed by James Cameron.
The new trailer is playing in front of “Amelia” today, so the official trailer should be released online either later tonight or this weekend. Until then, here is the bootleg version. I’ll swap it with the official version when it hits.
The first thing you notice is that the new trailer concentrates more on the character of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and the plot, and less on the CG. Obviously there are still lots of CG action, since that’s a big part of the movie, but the focus is definitely more on the characters this time around.
Go to war December 18, 2009.
Update:
20th Century Fox has still not released the new trailer yet, but here’s an International version that is basically the same as the new trailer. Yahoo! Movies has now premiered the new trailer.
