The Host’s Bong Joon-ho Heads to the Apocalypse in Snow Piercer

Horror and creature fans got a taste of what South Korean director Bong Joon-ho could do with “The Host”, and now the director is talking up his next film, a post-apocalyptic movie called “Snow Piercer”, which, if all goes well, he’ll begin shooting by 2011.

Collider has more info on the movie:

Bong says his next project takes place in a world covered by ice and snow. He says it’s about a group of survivors that end up on a train and we watch their journey as they struggle and fight with one another as the train is still broken up by class. Ultimately, it’s about human nature under extreme circumstances. He told me the plan is to write the film next year and to film it in 2011.

The film will be based on the French comic book “Le Transperceneige” from Casterman, originally written by Jacques Lob and drawn by Alexis and Jean-Marc Rochette. Three volumes of the comics were produced, with Benjamin Legrand taking over scripting duties on the second and third volume, with artwork by Rochette.
