The Future of Chinese Cops Lies in … Future X-Cops!

Future X-Cops Movie, Sci-Fi Movie News — By Nix on May 14, 2009 |

Ever wondered what the future of law-enforcement would look like? In, er, Chinese? Well Andy Lau and Wong Jing would like to show you in their new $20 million dollar movie called … “Future X-Cops”! The film is being called a “sci-fi actioner”, and the $20 million dollar price tag certainly makes it a very expensive flick, especially for a Hong Kong production, which tends to be short on production value and huge on stunts. After all, paying a dozen stuntmen to break their necks is a lot cheaper than CGI killer meteorites, or so I’m told.

So what’s it all about? THR says it’s about a cop (probably Andy Lau, the biggest movie star in Hong Kong for the last few decades) who travels back in time to foil a corporate conspiracy against a doctor who has created a new technology which threatens the the monopoly on a city’s energy resources.

Trust me, if that plot doesn’t make sense, it’s because it doesn’t have to. Hong Kong movies rarely have plots that make sense. More often than not, they’ll make up elements of the script as they go, especially on Wong Jing-directed movies. Jing, incidentally, has directed some of the most Godawful Hong Kong movies of all time, but every now and then, he’s been known to put out some decent ones. Let’s hope this is the latter and not the former.

Below: In the future, you’ll WANT to get arrested.
