As you may or may not have heard, but “Terra Nova” was recently all over the blogosphere when it was announced that the show had fired many of its writers. Many surmised that the show was in trouble. Not so fast. As it turns out, that was just the network trying to save some bucks, and they always intended to re-hire them when the show finally got into the full swing of production.

This has left Fox to seek out cost-saving measures, including recently letting go a slew of writers (with the intention of rehiring them in the spring), rather than paying them to sit idle while production is on hiatus, a byproduct of the new airdate schedule.

As for that new airdate:

The network is giving the highly anticipated time-travel series a sneak peek in May, before rolling out the full series next fall — a tactic that did wonders for “Glee” last year.

The two-hour episode gives viewers a first look at the series, which revolves around a family living on Earth in the year 2149. With the planet on the brink of destruction, thanks to years of aggressive scientific experimentation and an exploding population, the family agrees to go back to prehistoric times in hopes of finding a way to save the Earth by attempting to correct mistakes made in the past.

The special effects-heavy show is from producer Steven Spielberg, and is expected to cost the network around $4 million per episode, with the pilot already costing them around $14 million or thereabouts.

So yeah, I guess it goes without saying, this show better pull in INSANE numbers ratings-wise, or it’s gonna see the ax pretty fast.
