Sure, the BBC original show “Being Human” might have been good, even great, but it’s, you know, got them funny accents, and who wants to deal with that? As a result, the SyFy Channel has just greenlit a 13-episode order for an American version of the supernatural UK show.
The premise behind the show is pretty nifty, if a tad over-the-top: three twentysomething roommates who also happen to be a ghost, a vampire and a werewolf help one another navigate the complexities of living double lives. Though having never seen the show, I don’t really know what kind of a “double life” the ghost could have. What does she do on dates? Pretend to eat? It’s questions like that that keep me up at nights. That, and heartburn.
The SyFy Channel is currently looking for a creative team to adapt the British show for American audiences, after having passed on the show when it was originally presented with it a couple of years ago. The idea is to get the show into production for a summer or fall 2010 bow, where it will most likely be partnered up with the Amanda Tapping sci-fi show “Sanctuary”, also about monsters and the humans who love them (or at least, don’t run away from them screaming).
Can you tell which one is the vampire, the ghost, and the werewolf? Oh, subtle advertising, you rock.
