When Steven Spielberg goes sci-fi, I’m always interested. Unless it’s sci-fi where sci-fi shouldn’t be, like that last “Indiana Jones” movie, but let’s not talk about that. Anyways, it’s officially official: Spielberg will direct “Robopocalypse” as his next movie, with the film scheduled for July 3, 2013 — just in time to cash in on the July 4th weekend.

DreamWorks and Fox are teaming up on the budget side, with Spielberg directing the movie from a script by Drew Goddard, and based on the novel of the same name by Daniel Wilson.

The film takes place in the not-too-distant future, and features a robot uprising. It’s up to a band of humans to fight back or be wiped off the planet by our former metallic servants.

I’ve tried reading “Robopocalypse”, but I just couldn’t really commit to the constant switching of POV. I guess I like my novels to be more linear and less erratic in terms of who is talking or from what angle. The movie itself, I suspect, will be more condensed and not jump so much around different characters.
