I love 1997′s “Starship Troopers”. Didn’t care all that much for 2004′s cheapie sequel “Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation”, though it had its moments. Didn’t even bother to watch 2008′s “Starship Troopers 3: Marauder”.
As such, I have no idea if I’ll bother to watch the latest “Troopers” entry, the upcoming animated “Starship Troopers: Invasion”, which is currently in production with “Appleseed” director Shinji Aramaki doing the honors, and franchise writer Edward Neumeier and actor Casper Van Dien back.
The plot of “Invasion” will find Neil Patrick Harris’ Carl Jenkins character from the 1997 movie going missing “while on a clandestine mission with alien bug-fighting soldiers tasked with a rescue mission that has sinister consequences.”
Obviously with Van Dien back, Johnny Rico will also be back.
The film is scheduled to open theatrical in Japan where the franchise is apparently still very popular, sometime next year, but Stateside fans will probably find it on DVD/Blu-ray.
