Stargate’s Don S. Davis Dead at 65

Well this is sucky news. Actor Don S. Davis, most famous for his role as General George Hammond on the Stargate: SG1 TV series has passed away at the too-young age of 65. According to Don’s wife Ruby Fleming-Davis, Don died June 29 after suffering a heart attack. He had previously reduced much of his workload on SG1 in 2003 due to his health, but returned for some important episodes and is due back for the second (and possibly final) SG1 direct-to-DVD movie, “Stargate: Continuum”.

More from Sci Fi Wire:

A native of Missouri, Davis had a 26-year career that included many roles on TV series, notably Maj. Garland Briggs on Twin Peaks. He met SG-1 co-star Richard Dean Anderson on the set of MacGyver, on which he worked as a stunt double for actor Dana Elcar.

Davis’ final Stargate appearance is in Stargate: Continuum, the upcoming straight-to-DVD movie. He will also appear in the films Vipers, Woodshop and Far Cry.

A family memorial will take place in a few weeks, and fans are asked to make memorial donations to the American Heart Association.

RIP Don.

I only found out this sad news when I came onto this site tonight.

Wonderful actors like Don become a part of your own life. You cannot invest so much time watching a series without becoming attached to the actors who play the roles.

Don had the inner strength and gravitas which allowed him to produce a character in Stargate who was so much more than the two-dimensional “general-in-command” type usually seen in many TV productions. He had a presence which made you believe he was in charge and an interesting voice with more than a touch of gravel to it.

    I will miss you Don.

After years of watching stargate SG1 Don was an integral character along side Richard and I completly agree with Bernie on his comments above. Don was a very underrated actor and his loss coupled with what could be the final sg1 ever makes for a sad day indeed.

May you find peace in your place in the stars Don
      You will be missed

Yes indeed, I too as many will feel a sense of loss for an individual who as an actor spent his career as he did much of his life, in an attempt to learn and to grow & improve on himself while at the same time giving of himself to others. Bernie, perhaps you are getting a sense of his command “presence” and of being “in charge” partially due in no small part to his millitary career (he was a Captain in the U.S. Army) which obviously carried over and served him well in his civilian life. Here is a small list of his many accomplishments: Theater professor, painter and captain in the United States Army. nnDon Sinclair Davis PhD (August 4, 1942 u2013 June 29, 2008)nnI salute you sir, you shall be dearly missedn
