StarGate Universes Ming-Na On Being A Sci-Fi Lesbian

Ming-Na is apparently Science Fictions first lesbian. I’ve been wracking my brain with it’s densely contained and massive archived data store of lesbian television and movie lore and my god man, she just may be right! This singular-ness is a crime against Sci-Fi that must be immediately remedied with more Ming-Na, more lesbians and more breathless, vaguely lecherous editorials!

Ming-Na, the excellent actress, turbo babe and aforementioned number 1 Space Lesbian has been interviewed by the lucky ducks over at the Scifiwire. There she speaks about her character and her relationships and then talks about Stargate Universe getting some action and some aliens, maybe aliens in action. Let’s get a quote.

We’ll also see something the fans have been asking for, said Ming-Na. “What I’ve been hearing is they want more action, so there’s definitely going to be more action … There will be aliens introduced, but not the ones in the rubber suits that I guess have been in the other past Stargates. These are really amazing aliens, and I think that’s going to bring a lot of excitement to the show and another level of dire situations for the crew on Destiny. I think we will definitely make those fans happy, but we’ll continue to do the storylines with the characters.” One of those stories will include the return of Sharon.

Super. I’m a big fan of the Universe and my stubborn loyalty is starting to really pay off. That last episode before the break was really excellent stuff. Look for me to get really emotional when I return to my duties under the cruel lash of Nix as your resident Episode Recapper when the series continues in a few months.

Ming Na’s not the first lesbian in scifi!
What about Linda Ferantino — if I spelled that right — from BSG? As the head of the Battlestar Pegasus she was duped into a relationship with #6 before the Cylon attack on the Colonies. I think it was in the mini-movie BSG: Razor.

Dax from DS9 had a bit of a lesbian fling but I don’t think that counts.

That’s the spirit. Keep those Space Lesbian references coming!

I think there was a lesbian encounter of some sort on Firefly, it was with Inara (Morena Baccarin) and someone else, maybe one of her customers.

Also, didn’t Deanna Troi or her mom have some sort of lesbian fling? Definitely Dr. Crusher did with one of the early versions of Dax’s people.

Just another reason I quit watching at Episode 5. Chinese Space Lesbians.

What about Ivanava from Babylon 5!

In Next Generation there was a whole planet of them. One of them was ‘straight’ and thus an outcast. Of course she fell for Riker…

The people on the planet were all androgynous, not gay or lesbians.
