StarGate Universe To Feature Two Lesbian Characters

Sci-Fi TV News — By endymi0n on April 21, 2009

Ming-Na, a series regular on the upcoming “Stargate: Universe” will be one of two openly gay characters on the show, with perhaps more on the way.

A quote from a creator.

“This goes towards our goal to make the characters on Universe as complex and complicated and realistic and identifiable as we can, to as many people as we can,” Cooper said. “And that’s not just a desire for ratings. That’s the desire to portray humanity and make a show that is saying something about who we are.”

Lesbians in Space. I will be watching. Thanks Scifiwire.

WHY??????? That just totally ruined it for ME! WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE THINKING? One of the appeals of the other Stargates is the ability to sit and watch it with my children. This completely angers me!

    dumb asses

  • cookiec1025 says:

so you are saying that any show featuring anyone who is not completely identical to yourself is offensive and inappropriate for your children? Better not let them out of the house then, they might 'catch the gay'. Get out of the 80's ok? There is nothing the slightest bit wrong with being gay. The fact that a show that is suppose to be a representation of real life but in a fictional setting should show somethign that EXISTS IN OUR EVERY DAY LIVES shouldn't offend you. It should make you feel proud that mainstream media and entertainment is finally catching up (slowly) to how things are in the world.

well i guess with your way of thinking we would also need a tranny on board the Destiny..just a thought

I dont think any one saying there is any thing wrong about being gay cookiec1025 . Its more of the point that these producers are just using this a stunt to increase ratings as any one knows that sex sells . I dont see the producers having two gay guys on the ship do you ? As I would assume there ratings with two gay guys wouldnt pull in the viewers as two lesbians . So basically the TV producers are mindless using this a pointless stunt . Plus what there doing is basically rape as well using some one else body to perform sexual acts on with out there permission ? Wouldnt you agree ?

I cant believe this! Thier are less black in scifi that make up 13% of the population and 14% latino and you dont see use in SCi FI in those number and what 4% gay or bi-sexual, Yeah token and wrong! I had my daughter DDR it but, guest where not going to watch it. make that one less viewer.

    Yay!!!

I just tivoed it! My family and I are sure to watch!

There are fewer-and-fewer family friendly shows on TV. The Stargate franchise was among them and a favorite of our household. Now with SGU trying to appeal to a minority, they are turning away their meat and potato core audience.

Way to go MGM. Love the premise and the music/score, but my family and I WON’T be watching your show anymore.

PS- A fyi that TIVO’ing/DVR’ing doesn’t help the show. Anyone in the industry will tell you that the archaic Nielson system needs LIVE viewers in order to impact ratings. If you really want to get MGM’s/the producer’s attention, see which commercials play during SGU and write letters to their advertisers!

cookiec2510…. dear dear dear… do you understand that its people like you with your hate, that cause your dear jesus to hung on a cross and thousands of jews slaughtered in germany. and countless african americans hung because of color!! May be we should stop worrying about whats on TV and read a book to your kids maybe one the teaches equality and peace!! I’m just saying!

      • Michael D says:

        B,

It’s disappointing that you would bring your hate to an otherwise logical debate. No one here maligned an individual (or group of persons) until you.

We could be having a valid discussion about whether or not homosexuality is a symptom of increased hedonism in today’s society and whether or not hedonism is capable of sustaining a society without asceticism. Instead, you chose to attack religion and convolute the discussion with irrelevant references to racism.

        • Queen b says:

no d.. its phobia the fear od the fear of somethign diffrent!! homophobia, judeophobia the fear od jewish religion and jews that caused that i have no hate i love ignorant people…because with out themthe world would be unbalanced…

        • Queen b says:

and another thig i find what was said highly insulting being gay myself!

  • Amos says:

What is next, a pedophile character. Why is it necessary for every single character to have an abnormal life. Most people I know do not have horrible problems in their lives like bastard children, dad who runs off because the mom has AIDS, etc… Why not have some characters to whom one can look up instead of people who all have enormous problems. There can be some with horrible social lives, and some with normal lives. I don’t have kids, but it would just be nice for kids to be able to have characters that they can look up to. In addition there can be some where the parents can say, “See, don’t grow up to be like that person.”

Also, I seriously doubt that she could get permission to tell her lesbian lover about all the Stargate intel. They bent reality there just so they could put lesbian stuff in the show.

In addition, she went into another persons body and had sex with a woman. If someone went into my body and used it to have sex with a guy I would beat the hell out of them. Just imagine someone using your body for sex (which is basically like rape) and you get an STD.

Looks like some of you will only be left with Fox News to watch. Bummer for you.

When I watch a sci-fi show, I want to see uplifting escapism I want to hope that through some adversity, humanity will prevail.
I do not enjoy watching degenerates fornicating on my TV.
I eagerly awaited the airing of the first couple episodes out of series loyalty. Now I just DVR it and have my thumb on the fast forward button for cringe worthy moments.
