As if being forced to sit through a single episode’s worth of storyline stretched out unmercifully into three draaaaaaaaaagging episodes, as well as a season ending cliffhanger wasn’t “tough”, “dark”, and “depressing” enough, the “Stargate: Universe” producers are promising even harder times for our stranded heroes in the show’s upcoming Season 2.
Speaking to SFX (via Digital Spy), SGU producers Brad Wright and Robert Cooper made these ominous promises about the upcoming Season 2:
Cooper revealed that Everett Young, played by Louis Ferreira, will “feel some pain” in the new episodes.
He explained: “After everything he’s been through – and it gets worse for him initially at the beginning of season two – it’s impossible to imagine that a person wouldn’t go to a very dark place at least for a short period of time.”
Fellow producer Wright continued: “When you try to adopt a more realistic tone, where frankly we don’t win every time, then there have to be real world repercussions like death and injury and loss. You can dig deeper into characters and the deeper you dig the repercussions can get bigger.
“We are going to some places with these characters, and already have really, that we would never go with the heroes of our other series.”
Cooper also revealed that the show’s younger characters will be given greater prominence in the second season.
“As the conflicts between Rush and Young escalate in season two it’s forcing our younger characters to mature and emerge as stronger individuals taking their rightful place in making decisions,” he said.
You’ll notice that there are no promises about more alien action in that entire article. Sigh.
Anyways, will the slightly overweight nerd at least get the girl in Season 2? God knows having Chloe shack up with the unGodly dull Matthew Scott has been a waste of good storyline potential. If you really want to write an “unsafe” show, wouldn’t this be where you would go? Putting Chloe with Scott for all of eternity is the very definition of “safe”.
