See the original and second generation Star Trek series and you will realise any true scifi show has it the other way around. SGU tries to immitate the BG and will fail. I didn't see the BG lasting 10 years as the SG. Same as the SGU i give it 2-3 years tops. BG was a drama series with a hint of scifi. The SG shows are great as well. To be honest, grade B is a perfect place of the SG shows. With SGU, I expect an upgrade to grade A soon unless the next SG-1 season pulls out some big stops. BSG did what no other science fiction series has done, that I can recall, and that is to bring a definite sense of realism to science fiction. I from time to time watched SG shows, and was immediately turned off by the sometimes awful jokes and puns, predictable plots, and general tedium. Only when the revisited arcing storylines did the shows become interesting. I think the networks have all learned by now that arcing storylines are what draw fans and boost popularity (STNG: Borg, etc, etc). It's plain to see SG production lacked in comparison to BSG.
