Stargate SG1 Crew Will Guest Star in Stargate Universe
Sci-Fi TV News, Stargate: SG-1 TV Series, Stargate: Universe TV Series — By Nix on April 15, 2009
Well color me a tad pleased. I’ve seen and read pretty much everything on the Sci Fi Channel’s new Stargate show, Universe, and I have to admit, I am not liking the things I’m seeing. To me, the whole thing just doesn’t feel like Stargate. It seems to be pandering way too much to you kids and your political allegories and obsessive need for depressing storylines, nothing I would really associate with the Stargate franchise.
But in any case, whether the show lives up to my expectations (or in this case, growing doubts) or not, there are some silver linings in the horizon: THR reports that a lot of the old cast from Stargate: SG1 will be making appearances on the show, perhaps in more than one episode (i.e. beyond the obligatory walk-through in the pilot).
Some of the names include Richard Dean Anderson as Jack O’Neill (a must-have, and it was a good job getting him to come back, as I’m sure ol RDA was probably very hesitant as he seems to have easily let the role, and the franchise fade into the background years ago), Amanda Tapping as Sam Carter (she’s done extensive work in all the Stargate shows, so it makes sense to bring her back for a recurring stint on Universe), Michael Shanks as Daniel Jackson (not quite as critical as O’Neill or Carter, but nice to have him back in the Stargate-verse nevertheless) and Gary Jones as Walter Harriman (I could do with or without).
Also lined up for guest starring spots will be Christopher McDonald, who will play Senator Alan Armstrong, the head of the International Oversight Committee (the annoying, oftentimes retarded suits that watch over the Stargate program), and father of Universe regular Chloe Armstrong, played by Elyse Levesque. Also guest-starring will be 24’s Carlo Rota, who heads the International Oversight Advisory. What’s the difference between the Advisory and the Committee? I haven’t a clue. I don’t pay attention to background stupid plotlines that much, sorry. But THR says the IOA watches over the Atlantis Expedition, whereas IOC watches over the entire program. Maybe.
Curiously, no signs of Teal’c, Ben Browder, Claudia Black, or any of the Atlantis crew…

Why curiously? TPTB have shown their distain for Atlantis and it’s cast ever since the cancellation of SGA.
I won’t be watching SGU.
