Stargate: Atlantis (5.20) Enemy at the Gate Series Final Episode Promos

Promo images for the Stargate: Atlantis episode (Season 5, Episode 20) “Enemy at the Gates”. That’s right. This is the final episode of Stargate: Atlantis before the cast and crew jet off into their very own series of made-for-DVD movies, following in the footsteps of the Stargate: SG1 gang. From the looks of these promos (VERY SPOILERISH, I must say), I guess we know who ends up with whom — at least at the end of the episode.

And look whose back, Amanda Tapping! I would have also liked to see Torri Higginson make at least a cameo in the final episode of the TV show, but apparently that wasn’t to be. Too bad, she was really a great part of the show while she was on it.

“…This is the final episode of Stargate: Atlantis before the cast and crew jet off into their very own series of made-for-DVD movies, following in the footsteps of the Stargate: SG1 gang….”
This will be the last, “Stargate”, anything as far as I am concerned. Enthusiastic support of the previous two movies seems to be what got the series cancelled. Being one of the junkies that will watch anything as long as it has the term, “Stargate”, in it, is what enables the PTB to keep sh—ing on the fans. I will not enable bad behavior.

This is not the last “Stargate” Stargate universe is the next in the series.
After much waiting, fans finally have the first solid info on just what Stargate Universe is all about! The third live-action television series in the Stargate franchise has been in the concept stage for more than a year now, and is being conceived by Stargate Atlantis co-creators Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper.
The idea of Stargate Universe is that it is set on a ship that was part of an Ancient experiment that was set in motion probably millions of years ago — one that they never saw to fruition, but that we can,” Wright told GateWorld exclusively. “They got busy with the whole ascension thing.”
The experiment is “to send a ship across the universe, and to send one ahead of it to seed the galaxies with Stargates, and that they would one day use the ninth chevron to get there [to the ship]. And that’s what Stargate Universe is.”

Millions of years ago (before their conflict with the Wraith and possibly even before they moved Atlantis to the Pegasus Galaxy), the show would reveal, the Ancients sent out two ships: an automated vessel to place Stargates throughout multiple galaxies in our universe, and a second ship to follow up and explore.

A standard, 7-symbol gate address allows for travel within the same galaxy. Use of the Stargate’s eighth chevron allows for travel to a different galaxy. And the ninth chevron will allow the team to reach this second, still unmanned Ancient ship.

The series was pitched to SCI FI Channel last fall, just before the writer’s strike — which put a hold on the project. “The pitch was received very well,” Wright said. “[But] we pitched an expensive series — the idea we have is not cheap. I think we’ve proven ourselves, so … ‘Can we please have enough money to do it right this time?’ And, if not, then honestly I don’t want to do it. Why do it wrong?”
The strike and the potential cost of Stargate Universe are not the only reasons the show is not yet moving forward.

“Part of the reason it’s taking a while is that Atlantis is currently on-going, and because we didn’t want to go into development with anything during the writer’s strike — because it seemed inappropriate. Even though we’re Canadian, we recognized it is for the American marketplace.”
Internally, Robert and I are a little bit torn, because we had such a great time making The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum. Making one or two of those a year would be a damn fine thing to do! Honestly, it takes up a big chunk of time writing it, a big chunk of time making it, and then the post on a movie is more than twice as complicated as post on the biggest episodes. So it’s not like you can just knock one off while you’re making a television show. It’s just too much.”

Wright said that he is not anxious to return to a schedule that requires the Vancouver team to produce 40 hours of television each year, indicating that Stargate Universe may wait until Atlantis has concluded its run.

When the show does begin, Wright believes that it has to both move the franchise forward to attract new viewers, and remain true to the established formula. “It has to feel like Stargate, and it has to feel new. That’s the tight rope, that’s the balance you have to maintain, and that’s the challenge.

“To put it in its simplest terms, if we had ever just done SG-2as a series it would never have worked. It’s not the C.S.I. model.”

Keep in mind that the Stargate Universe concept is still in an early stage of development, and some change is inevitable. GateWorld looks forward to keeping you up-to-date on the development of the new series, and to exploring brand new galaxies in Stargate Universe!

I said, “as far as I am concerned”. They are canceling the show that I, and many others really enjoy, in order to produce their new wonder child. Other than a double episode, excuse me, make that a two hour “movie”, the actors that I and many others like and enjoy are getting tossed out on their cans in favor of the new “wonder children”. They are saying, “this is what we are doing, screw the fans. Deal with it!” So, I am dealing with it.
I probably won’t watch “Enemy at the Gates”, as all it will be is a cliff hanger to make the fans buy the DVD.

  • Raven says:

From what I have heard it wont be a clifhanger, The “Movie” is like you said, Simply a double show, which will later be shown on DVD. And yes I agree, I hate that Atlantic is ending, There are to many more things they could do with the show, However SGU will have to be the final show, I mean how much father can they really go? The show to me has already reached Startrek status. If they kep SGA going there is so much more they could do with tech and discovorys to be made, But I honestly think SGU will be the end all be all, Probably even a huge floop, With any luck the makers of SGA and SGU will read some of these blogs and deside not to go ahead with SGU and continue with SGA, Maybe even do the “Lost ship” thing But use it as a jumpping point from galixie to galixie without the 9th Schevron, Opening up a whore new world for SGA.

  • akuma says:

I hope just for once, that the team get Atlantis up full power using 3 ZPM’s.

Its always confused me why they could never make more, surely the acients left instructions on how to make them somewhere, they after all pretty important!

  • lee says:

i have just watched the final 2 episode that have appeared all over the internet episode 19 is about john shepard on an alternate earth as a detective big flop for episode 19

episode 20 finds atlantis flying to earth on 3 zpm modules provided by todd ,to save earth from a new raith hive with a zpm on board , atlantis and earth survive but atlantis is left stranded on earth

why they had to axe this show i will never understand then next series with the scottish actor from 28days later as lead role is definately going to be a flop

  • Josh says:

I think that the lost accient ship is a good idea, but instead of having a new show, use the atlantis members finding the ship. have rodney discovering what the ninth cheveron leads to and then john, teyla, ronon, and rodney, possibly even jennifer going to the ship

it would keep the fans happy and even bring on new ones

  • Windchaser73 says:

SGA charactors on the Ancient ship is the best idea I’ve heard in a long time. But, unfortunately, they’re not young enough. I guess early and mid thirties is the new forties & fifties.
The main reason I have decided to finish with the franchise at the end of SGA is, even if the new show is great and gathers a huge fan base, TPTB will pull the same crap with it that they did with SGA. “ah ha! this show is doing great. Lets cancel it and pacify the fans with a couple of double episode DVD ‘movies’..”

  • JonnyL says:

Stargate Universe does not need a new idea or cast. If you were going to travel around the universe setting up Stargates or exploring you would use Atlantis with three zpms, maybe even extending Atlantis to support Flora and Forna in a ‘Silent Running’ fashion. Possibly the writers and producers are bored with this approach wanting to work on movies with a bigger budget, let’s face it due to cost constraints the formula for all these Sci-Fi series means that for every good episode with CGI/SFX you have to put up with four or five mundane ones.

I for one will wait to see if Stargate Universe offers an original and engaging storylines, better character development and special effects and the producers should not forget the disaster that was Star Trek Enterprise.

  • RuthF says:

I agree with you guys 100%. I love sci-fi movies, but I confess I was only watching stargate Atlantis. I will really miss that show. I really don’t understand why are they cancelling something with so many fans around. In this dificult times USA is passing by, I think it is really not smart to change good business to risky business. Yes, lets not forget Star Trek Enterprise…what a fiasco… We trekkers watched because we really need it :D But I am not sure about the new Stargate Universe. The idea looks good, it could be implemented with Atlantis, instead wasting money with new actors (the main actor doens’t fit my taste…). If the problem is money, why are they risking with this? I will watch Atlantis repeats until my DVDs need to be replaced. Fanfics will be increased. I am so upset about that… There was so much more to talk about, so much more to do. The series was getting even better with time… I don’t understand, I really dont. Sorry about that guys, I hope the producers do some reasearch with the audience before doing this madness…
