I look at my young grandson he’s only 5 years old and already want a girlfriend. I hope and pray that he keep his innocent and becomes more responsible and have a good character as young Spock and mature like when he got older with Uhura. Young couples more so fast that they don’t value long lasting relationship and move so quickly to start another. I long for a scene in which they come off their spaceship and start a family right here on Mother Earth.
And who knows that even I would like go to space transported in a time of adventure and embraced by the galaxies as being 50 plus it’s better than going to Disneyland ! Rowena R.

Maybe I was caught in a time of seeing something on the big screen which reminds me of sweet innocent in which relationships felt more sincere when a touch of the hands or a tender kiss would last forever. I long to see young love last for mire pleassure of the moment but a lasting effect and a greater character of responsibilty.I look forward to seeing Spock and Uhura bloosome to a picture that is spoken a thousand ways. When I think of young love and how it is to have someone like Spock to place his lips on mine I can only imagine the tingling sensation of my heart pounding and my toes balling up. I felt like faliling in his arms I thought to myself as old as I am to be taken for the moment but who would I be fooling. I long for my youth and the touch and just like Spock I reframe myself from emotions. And to have someone to look at me again and for the mire conversation … Uhura kiss him for me!
And this time let him look back and remember the smile the walk the scene. Rowena R.

OMG! I must be the last person on earth to see this movie, I rented the DVD and watched it all day Saturday, literally. This was the bestest!
Reading all of the other post makes me want to purchase the original series. I watched the series as a child and LOVE Mr Spock, with his sexy self. The scenes in the movie were SO GOOD between Spock and Uhura! The movie was great, but I was like FINALLY! Something genuine for two deserving characters. YAY!I loved the emotion he was able to show, the strength and determination she had for them both. I love that his father admitted to Spock that he love his mother. I believe that helped Spock embrace and acknowledge more of his feelings for Uhura. J.J please provide more! I’m not a big fan of sequels, but I believe this needs to be done, Thanks in advance! :)

If I am not mistaken, that kiss between Kirk & Uhura in the original series WAS SUPPOSED to be Spock & Uhura! I heard at some point that it was Shatner that pushed for the kiss, claiming it would be more meaningful between two races rather than two species. Regardless, it WAS a really big deal at the time (1966). I remember how shocked my mom was when she saw it!
So I wonder if the sequel (of course there will be one) will introduce characters like Nurse Chapel and Yeoman Janice Rand?

I agree with you, Phoenix! I was very happy and excited to see the romance between Spock and Uhura and I certainly hope to see it continue through the next two Star Trek films!! :) Smart sexy girl Uhura gets the finest, smartest and sexiest man (even moreso than wildchild Kirk) in all of Starfleet: SPOCK!! So yeah, I would love to see a marriage and baby carriage somewhere around the third or maybe fourth installment!

I must say that I have never been into Star Trek that much but I am excited about the Spock/Uhura relationship. It pretty much blew me away. It was so cool how she wasn’t feeling Kirk at all but had love and passion for Spock. The intellectual cool guy wins out over the bad boy. My son said it all. Kirk got the medal but Spock got the girl. Now, they need to follow this through with marriage and babies.

I was blessedly unspoiled watching the film even though I only saw it this weekend. The Spock/Uhura romance was a lovely surprise and long overdue. I was shocked that the usually thrill happy Lost/Alias crew had come up with such a tender and smart romance.

I would equate it to the Darcy/Elizabeth pairing in Pride and Prejudice, and Maureen O’Hara and John Wayne in “The Quiet Man.” It’s nice to see a strong and scholarly Uhura paired with a brilliant and complicated Spock. I’ve been telling my sisters for years, “get thee to a Spock.”

Tall dark and smart Spock is way sexier than sweaty man-child Kirk any day. Uhura.1 was a role model to many women, and Uhura.2 is poised to be a great role model for a whole new set of girls. Do I dare hope that smart and sexy will replace dumb and trashy as a ideal of beauty? Fingers crossed!

I’m not a Trekkie but Star Trek has grown on me over the years. This love scence between Spock and Uhura was supprising and extremely hot. It added a new dimenson to the old series without distracting from my expectations for the characters. I fully agree with Nimoy on the issue too. I wanted that to be me with that young, slim, brilliant Saldana.

Glad that Uhura was cast as an intelligient, spunky character and not an ‘angry, black woman’ that is so popular with film makers. I’m so tired of the ghetto, loud-mouthed, uneducated, man-hating, materialistic black females depicted in most movies today! As a black female I jumped for joy when I saw the new Star Trek movie and Zoe Saldana’s Uhura! Uhura is smart and she rocks! I’m glad she’s in a relationship with the smart and sexy Vulcan Spock! Their relationship was suttle and not forced! Can’t wait for Star Trek 2!

If anyone reads down this far … I don’t remember all the details of the original series b/c I was a kid but would choose it and all it’s reincarnations and movies over anything Star Wars (though me loves JarJar) – this movie was great. I loved the subtle but in the audience’s face romance budding between Uhura and Spock. I enjoyed the way we met each character and even Chekovs accent was much stronger – as it would have been fresh out of his country and headed to Starfleet. This movie has made me want to go back to the beginning and start by viewing the original on DVD (I hope) and the following series, along with every Star Trek movie made and reconnect with the series I once enjoyed so much as a child and young adult.

Helga P. I agree! When I saw it I could not believe it. Then I was so happy about it. I have loved Spock since I was a kid watching the reruns on Sunday afternoon with my siblings. All of my sisters except one loved Mr. Spock. It makes the most sense, he’s smart and so is she. Its about time a nerd romance was put to the fore front of a movie. As a black woman I am happy to say that its about time the black woman got the hottie. A a smart woman I glad to see that the hottie is a smart handsome man this time and not the “player”. More of us women think that smart= hot than people realize. And there are clues to a relationship with Uhura and Spock and Uhura and Kirk in TOS. Frankly everyone is in awe of her in the series and in the movies.
