I think your criticism comes from the fact that Howard's stories have Kane already a fully formed character, with his motivations and moral code firmly in place. But as for the film, you're forgetting, most people aren't familair with Solomon Kane. When people think of Howard, they almost always think of Conan.

As a result, the film needed to be an origin story, to show how Kane acquired his hatred of evil, his unsurpasses fighting skills, and his aforementioned Puritan signature garb. Having read Howard's tales, I'd say the film captures the world Howard imagined, a world of violence and demonic magic where the pure of heart are few and far between.

Speaking as a fellow fan, I am sorry you didn't enjoy the film. Naturally to each is own and we all view characters we cherish differently. But if you shut the film off after twenty minutes, give it a go again and watch the entire way through. You might find the Kane you've given up on. Thanks for commenting.

This was a terrible, terrible Solomon Kane movie. I love the Solomon Kane stories and was pleased by early reports that a good movie adpation had been made.

I avoided seeing any trailers or reading any detail about it so when the opportunity arose I'd get to see the movie unhamepred by pre-conceptions except the hope it would be worthy.

I stopped watching about twenty minutes in. Whoever made this movie has not the slightest understanding or appreciation of the character or what made the stories interesting.

I still read of people enjoying the movie and I'm guessing as a rule they aren't folks who read the stories so aren't comparing them to Howard's atmospheric tales of an enigmatic puritan walking a world the melded history with myths of mysterious lands.

This movie my be enjoyable to some, but as an adpation of Howrd's Solomon Kane it is a very, very wide miss of the mark.
