Smallville Creators to Write Michael Bay’s I am Number 4

I Am Number Four Movie, Sci-Fi Movie News — By Nix on August 26, 2009

How hard is it to write a Michael Bay film? Don’t you just type in “…then it blows up” over and over? Just kidding, of course. Bag on him all you want, but Michael Bay makes movies people want to see, and there’s nothing wrong with that. The next film on his plate is an adaptation of the sci-fi novel “I am Number 4″, which has just found its writers.

Variety reports that Dreamworks, which bought the book rights for Bay to produce (and possibly direct), has now brought onboard writers/producers Al Gough and Miles Millar, the two guys who created the Smallville TV show, to adapt “I am Number 4″ for Bay.

The plot:

HarperCollins Children’s Books is publishing the book, about a group of nine aliens whose home planet is destroyed. They escape to Earth disguised as teenagers, and the title character discovers he and the others are still being hunted by the enemy that destroyed their planet.

And you thought you had it rough when all your teenage years consisted of you trying to hide that huge pimple on your forehead. Yes, we all know it’s still there, so you can go ahead and stop pulling the brim of your hat over it, you’re not fooling anyone.

Gough and Millar are no strangers to heroics on the big screen. Besides creating Smallville, they’ve also penned “Spider-Man 2” and “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.”

Is he still behind me? The big giant yellow robot? Dammit!
