If and when they end up finally making another “Alien” movie (and at this point, that’s not entirely a sure thing), you probably shouldn’t expect to see Sigourney Weaver reprise her Ripley character in it. And it won’t be because she doesn’t want to be in it, it’s just that the new “Alien” movie is supposed to be a prequel that takes place before the events of the original “Alien” movie, so that would make Ripley’s appearance sort of illogical.

Weaver told SciFiSquad pretty much the same thing:

Well, I don’t think that Ripley could appear in an Alien prequel because she doesn’t have any access to the creature until the first Alien. But Ridley (Scott) is producing it and that makes me happy. I wasn’t thrilled with the whole Alien Vs. Predator thing. I never saw them, but one of the reasons I died in (Alien) 3 was to not have anything to do with those (laughs). Just because, you know, I think it just seemed so economically motivated somehow. I feel we did four good movies, and I’m content with that. I hope if they do something new, they will encompass the idea of where the alien first came from, because I think that’s an interesting idea — to find out what happened and “how did it get to us?”.

As usually, I disagree with Weaver about the direction the franchise should take. Why go back in time to discover how they got to us? That’s boring. Move on with the fifth installment by following up on the events of the fourth movie, which nicely set up this great big, brewing alien-human war. I hate all this continued “going backwards” when we should be moving forward. Hate it in real life, and I hate it in the movies.
