Special effects were cool...however, the green thene was a bunch of horsecrap. Why couldn't the well-meaning aliens give us some of their technology and help us manage the earth better instead of sending us back to the stone-age for our own good? The message was" the only way to save the earth is to kill all sources of energy so as to live the life of the american indian" - you know - run around naked and crap in hole, etc, What a bunch of horse crap!

If you had never seen and loved the original this would be a fairly good passing of 2 hours. I can't say you leave with the conviction and message the original imparts and that is a shame. The iconic words "Klaatu Barada Nikto" however are uttered in this version, but you must listen very carefully to catch them when Gort first appears to save Klaatu after being shot.

Like just about everything eles in the world today hollywood and its writers have failed again, just like the CEO's of all the major corporations have failed too, Just like kangaroo federal goverment and its leaders have failed too.
Too bad Klatu and Gort arn't real. They could come to planet earth and rid us of all the losers that run this world.
I had such high hopes for this movie. Looks like nothing ever changes. A totum pole my ass, and global warming, these P.C. arragant punks should have used Al Gore and his big meat eating back end as Klatu, he's the self proclaimed carbon credit guru. He does have an oversied rearend if you havn't noticed. Al Gores house costs 20,000 a month to heat and light. kickum in the nuts Gort.

I've got to say that after reading the synopsis of the script, I am not impressed with the story or where it is going. Global Warming as the reason for Klaatu's arrival on Earth? Why would any alien race care about us polluting ourselves out of existence? Unless they can sense the pain of our planet and received a eco version of an S.O.S. from the Earth, I think that they should have stuck with the nuclear angle, since they are still a threat to our world, seeing as the host of nuclear nations is still growing.

Keanu might be an okay choice for Klaatu but clearly without our favorite Gort and that 'Klaatu...Barada...Nikto' the story is just a two hour 'Go Green or Die' after school special.

I hope that the visual FX will placate me and keep me from walking out of the theater, because the story is going to have a hard time keeping me in my seat.

What a stupid tradegy. Go green instead of stop killing yourselves? Yea right. Makes sense that an intergalatic civilization could give a hoot about a few trees. Not profilierating violence beyond the confines of your own planet; YEA that is a valid concern!

Michael Rennie must be spinning in his grave.

It could have been a grand re-make; now just a travesty.

Hollywood, get over yourselves!

This is too bad. It would have been great to see this classic story remade in a brilliant way. But, it's hard to imagine any composer equalling Bernard Herrmann's score or Michael Rennie's equanimity as Klaatu.
