Sci-Fi Channel Picks up Warehouse 13 for Series
- 0 comments
Okay, so I’ve been hearing about this new show Warehouse 13 for a while now, and I’ve been writing about it, but I have yet to actually see an episode of this thing. From what I’m hearing (they’re calling it a “dramedy” now), it sounds very much like a new, 2008 version of the short-lived UPN X-Files clone Special Unit 2. If that is indeed true, then yeah, I’m going to like this, as I was a fan (maybe the only one?) of SU2’s unique brand of wacky humor, barely credible storylines, and just general hijinx that requires, first and foremost, a major suspension in disbelief to enjoy. Warehouse 13 seems to be something like that. Maybe.
THR has news on the show being picked up for a series by the Sci Fi Channel:
The hourlong dramedy, from Universal Cable Studios, is described as part “X-Files,” part “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and part “Moonlighting.”
It revolves around two FBI agents — rule-bender Peter (Eddie McClintock) and by-the-book Myka (Joanne Kelly) — who, after saving the life of the U.S. president, are relocated to Warehouse 13, a location that houses supernatural objects the government has collected over the centuries.
The cable channel originally ordered a two-hour pilot of the project, written by “Farscape” creator Rockne O’Bannon, “Battlestar Galactica” co-exec producer Jane Espenson and D. Brent Mote.
I’m telling you, it’s the 2008 version of Special Unit 2. And if you happen to dig that show like I did, well, then that isn’t such a bad comparison. The worst thing the makers of Warehouse 13 can possibly do is go the dark and gritty route, which would just make it another X-Files clone in a season with already one such clone (Fringe, anyone?).
