Sci-Fi Casting: Four More for Stargate Universe
Sci-Fi TV News, Stargate: Universe TV Series — By Nix on January 16, 2009
More news from the world of Stargate, as the trades are announcing that four new actors have been cast for the show, including that of Colonel Everett Young and Lt. Matthew Scott (originally named Lt. Jared Nash in the character breakdowns we previously posted). Scott, I believe, will be the actual male lead of the show, and not Robert Carlyle as the trades keep on insisting, with Young playing the Hammond/Landry role, i.e. the substitute dad on the show.
Look, folks, this is a Stargate show — they don’t make medical doctors (Carlyle’s role) the lead on Stargate shows, it’s always the military guy, the action-oriented guy. Young is going to be played by Justin Louis (pictured, top left), who is too old for a show that the producers have already made clear they want to “go younger” with, which leaves the male lead for the Scott character, in this case to be played by the 20-something Brian J. Smith.
Joining Smith and Louis will be David Blue as the resident geek (ala Sam Carter, Rodney McKay) and Jamil Walker Smith (ala Teal’c, Ronon). THR says as much as they break down the characters:
Louis (”Hidden Hills”) will play Col. Everett Young, an experienced Stargate team leader.
Blue (”Ugly Betty”) plays Eli Wallace, a slacker who just happens to be an utter genius with anything he puts his mind to — everything from mathematics to video games.
Brian J. Smith (”Hate Crime”) is Lt. Matthew Scott, a junior member of the Stargate team thrust into the role of leader well before he’s ready.
Jamil Walker Smith (”Sister, Sister”) plays Sr. Sgt. Ronald Greer, a Marine with a temper.
Via the character breakdowns previously mentioned, looks like they’ve changed up the names a bit, probably to accommodate the actors they’ve hired for the roles. For instance, Jared Nash is now Matthew Scott, Eli Hitchcock is now Eli Wallace, and Ron “Psycho” Stasiak is now just Sr. Sgt. Ronald Greer.
Now that all the boys have been cast, let’s see what they come up with for the girls…
