Save Dollhouse! What, Already?

Dollhouse TV Series, Sci-Fi TV News — By Nix on May 30, 2008

You can forgive Joss Whedon’s fans for being a little leery of FOX. After all, this is the same network that axed their beloved Firefly before the show even had a decent chance at survival. FOX has always been notorious for greenlighting geek-tastic shows, only to kill it before it even has a chance. So what does that mean for Joss Whedon’s latest, the Eliza Dushku starring Dollhouse? No one knows, of course, since the show has yet to air, but that’s not going to stop the guys and dolls over at DollhouseForums.com from already thinking of ways to “save” the show.

Entertainment Weekly has your Twilight Zone-esque info:

According to Wired.com, DollhouseForums.com is leading a campaign to “urge followers to organize viewing parties, watch the trailers online, buy Dollhouse-endorsed merch and create more fan sites.” One poster, ultamatt, even suggests making “little cardboard dollhouses and set them up all around towns…. A viral marketing campaign that gets people thinking “WTF are all the dollhouses for?” All well and good, save one small detail: The show hasn’t failed yet. Dollhouse isn’t set to air for another eight months.

I would all these people nuts, but let’s consider how many great shows that have been axed before their time by the networks, and especially by FOX. Genre shows, and sci-fi in particular, just don’t have a very long shelf life on network TV, which is probably why most of them have gone on to survive only on cable networks with very few exceptions.

Save Dollhouse before it even airs? Why not. It’s never too late, I say.
