The thing is, “Cowboys and Aliens” is kind of a really shitty comic book, so I’m very hopeful that it will turn out to be a better movie. With someone like Jon Favreau at the helm, it can’t help but be much, much better than the comic, right? One can only hope, anyway.
Here’s another good news for the movie, though: Sam Rockwell, fresh off hamming it up in Favreau’s “Iron Man 2″, has joined the cast of the cowboys and Indians vs. aliens movie. Rockwell will be playing a bar owner named Doc who joins in the fight against the alien invaders.
I don’t even recall a character name “Doc” in the comics. It was apparently a very small role, but after Rockwell came onboard, writers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof, with Favreau’s blessing, have expanded on the character.
The film, set to star Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde and Harrison Ford, is set in the Wild West, and finds a cowboy (Craig) and his fiery sidekick (Wilde) leading a wagon train through the country when they are attacked by local Indians. The fight is interrupted when an alien ship crashes nearby, and aliens emerge intent on enslaving the human populace. The cowboys and Indians are forced to team up or perish.
