Rose Byrne Joins Alex Proyas’ Knowing

Alex Proyas’ “Knowing” is something better everytime I hear about it. Then again, we are talking about Alex Proyas here, and since “Dark City”, I’ve been a fan of this guy and pretty much everything he’s done. Okay, so maybe I didn’t quite “get” the garage band indie movie “Garage Days”, but everything else has been pretty darn good. Proyas’ latest is “Knowing”, and besides star Nicolas Cage, Rose Byrne has now signed on to play the female lead.

Byrne will play the daughter of a woman who buried a 1962 time capsule bearing the dates of the assassinations of historical figures, the hotel fire death of the wife of a professor (Cage) and an imminent world apocalypse. After the professor discovers its contents and alerts her, the initially skeptical Byrne begins remembering strange incidents from her childhood. Alex Proyas (”I, Robot”) will direct.

Kinda sounds like something M. Night Shyalaman would do. In fact, it kinda sounds familiar to Shyamalan’s upcoming “The Happening”. Then again, this is sci-fi, and that one is, well, something else.

But back to Byrnes. She was great in “Sunshine”, so it’s not like sci-fi is new to her.
