Roland Emmerich Wants Double The Independence Day Sequel Fun

Roland Emmerich Posits the End of the World in 2012I am one Sci-Fi fan that never tires of films where the aliens come down to Mother Earth and think that we humans will be as easy to conquer as butter, only to see us rise up and deliver a serious lesson in smackdown.

Within this sophisticated genre, “Independance Day” is a classic of the form, testifying to, among other things, Will Smith’s star qualities, the hypnotic attraction of ginormous MotherShips and the beauty of a tidal wave of mini vans and small sedans rolling end over end down 5th avenue.

The director of this masterpiece, Roland Emmerich, soon to demonstrate how to wreck the entire Earth in “2012″, thinks that soon we’ll have not one but two “Independence Day” sequels.

Mr. Emmerich’s thoughts on this:

“What we want to do in the next – it’s actually two movies – we want to do a bigger arc,” he explained. “‘Independence Day’ was always like the king who leads his troops into battle against an evil force, and that stays like that.”

He wants to call them ID4-Ever Part 1 and 2. There’s no script yet and this future vision of calamity is probably a dream unless “2012″ does well (and it should). He’ll need Will probably to join in but that probably won’t be difficult. Thanks to MTV who got the scoop.
