Robopocalypse Casting Update: Anne Hathaway and Ben Whishaw May Sign Up
The important word there is “may”, since with trade news nowadays, reporters tend to “hear” things, and depending on who told them (a studio source, say, or possibly the actor’s agent, most of the time, ahem), it may be really close to the truth, or way off the mark. But hey, that’s what movie blogs are for, right? To get you plugged into all the news you care about, good or ill.
So, the latest casting update on Steven Spierlberg’s “Robopocalypse”…
We already know that Chris Hemsworth has been offered the male lead, but no word if he’s said Yes yet. I’m guessing he will. I mean, who turns down the opportunity to star in a movie directed by Spielberg? The answer? No one.
Besides Hemsworth, the latest word on “Robopocalpse” has Anne Hathaway being up for the female lead. Coming off her hit role in “The Dark Knight Rises”, I’m guessing this is a dream casting list someone came up with. Hathaway is said to be circling the role. There are only two real major female adult characters in the Daniel H. Wilson book that the movie will be based on — a U.S. Senator and a female soldier who fights alongside a soldier, the obvious male lead set to be played by Hemsworth.
Also, Bond’s new Q., Ben Whishaw is also said to be eyed for the role of Lurker, a British computer hacker who spends his time making people’s lives miserable — until the robots start killing everyone. Like everyone who shows up in Wilson’s novel, Lurker plays a vital role in the battle against the killer robots.
“Robopocalypse” is set for 2014.
