This July, Iron Man 1 and 2 director Jon Favreau and his star Robert Downey Jr. meet up again, this time to start punching film for “Cowboys And Aliens”, working from a script by Star Trek writers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof  that they adapted from Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley’s graphic novel.

Word is also that the studio, Dreamworks, is thinking about doing this in 3D. “Cowboys And Aliens” is set to be released in 2011. Synopsis follows:

An extraterrestrial species lands in Arizona in the mid-1800s. The aliens plan to quash the Wild West and enslave humanity, but the cowboys and native Apache have other plans.

Thanks to Collider for their heads up.
