Ready for More Sex in Stargate SGU? And Look, Lesbians!

Apparently when “Stargate: Universe” producer Joseph Mallozzi told complaining fans to get over the sex on his show because it’s gonna keep happening, he wasn’t blowing smoke. Check out some new promo images from this week’s new “Stargate: Universe” episode, 1.09, “Life”, which features former “24″ CTU badass Reiko Aylesworth as Ming Na’s lesbian lover character. The whole sex and lesbian thing? I could care less. But the whole “jumping into someone else’s body and then going to have sex with someone else” angle? That just gives me the creeps. Big time. Surely, this is going to become an issue in future episodes, right? Say, a “No more having sex with other people while you’re in someone else’s body” rule? Or not, because it sure seems to keep happening. What happens if, er, they impregnate someone? Or catches an STD? I’m just saying. For a show that seems to have enslaved itself to being as “real” and “gritty” as possible, it’s curious that this topic has gone undiscussed on the show.
Here’s a preview of “Life”.

Well, Young will be suprised to know that the wife (ex-wife? I forgot his relation with that woman) is sometimes visited by “him” even if there was no “Bodyswap”
I don’t mind a few interesting plots with sex, or a meaningful scene about love, but if the rabbit action of the past episodes continues it will become annoying to see all this Battlestar copycat syndrome. Yes, sex sells, until a point where the consumer is fed up with it.

No, no, get with the program. Space lesbians are awesome under any circumstances.

the problem is, if we are fine with that then 2-men sex might follow and then i WILL stop watching, don’t forget the consequences

Who cares if two dudes go at it? I say fairs fair, altho, I wouldn’t want them to throw (any) sex in if it doesn’t progress character development (steamy lesbian sex, or otherwise).
Frankly I wish the LT would just go around hitting anything that moves, I mean, he seems the type anyhow. Sweet nothings, wam bam, and move on.. but let’s not turn this into a sex fest.

Wow. 2 Men! Then I’d probably START watching.

Doesnt this douche Joseph Mallozzi realize that just beacuse you can put more sex sence in a tv show does not make it any better .
Joseph Mallozzi go back to producing gang bus or milf hunters
Pitty that this show share the same name as the rest of the stargate series . At least V is looking like a promising tv show to watch

Hey Everyone,
Until about 6 months ago I didn’t get real heavy into sci-fi. I had seen a few Staragate episodes (Some SG-1 and some Atlantis). I really enjoyed the few I had seen, so I got online and found a few sites where you can watch every episode in order from the first season to the last. I WAS HOOKED! No commercials, and in sequential order; that’s the way it should be, I may never go back to broadcast TV. Anyway, after watching both shows (SG1 & Atlantis) from start to finish (Which was AWESOME!), I got disappointed when I found out there are no more episodes. SG1 ran for 10 seasons, I figured why wouldn’t Atlantis. I guess all good things come to an end. But the network gave us SGU as a replacement. I was optimistic about it, thinking it would be comparable in some manner, not even close. This last episode has done me in, I kept holding on trying to give the show a chance to do something, anything interesting. No such luck. I mean, how can you go from two great shows with great characters who are all unique, to having normal college kid characters. I’m a college kid myself, but when I’m watching, I get the feeling I’m watching one of those movies where 8 19-20 year olds are stuck in a haunted building and they die off one at a time. WE HAVE TONS OF THESE KIND OF MOVIES! It’s like watching scream.
Comparison In Characters: In the first two episodes you have at least one tough guy in the group, Rhonan (sorry if I misspelled) in one, and Tealc in the other, however in SVU most of them are sissies. Even the crazy convict soldier guy was scarred to see his own death. I’m tired of all this whiny crying drama! I want action! Maybe that is where the big difference is; we traded an action series for a drama series. However, even a drama can be interesting. For instance, I would consider the show “House” to be a bit of a TV drama. But there is one character that really makes the show a success due to his blunt attitude, you know what I’m talking about. And in SG1, that similar character is Jack O’Neil. He always had a straight no-nonsense way of looking at things that made his character interesting. Since there is none like him in the show, they catch a quick scene with him in this series, but that is not close to enough. It’s almost like he is an afterthought. And for what purpose I’m not sure.
All that being said, most sci-fi junkies are pretty smart (forgive me if I say nerdy) people. I’m sure some of you might know what we could do (productively) to help the writers andTv execs (or whoever makes the decisions on what the viewers want) change the situation for the better. I mean, just complaining on a few blogs doesn’t seem like it would do much good, I want to know if there is a better way to improve what they put on our screens? Tell me your thoughts? -Adam
Your right, we have traded sci-fi action for reality TV drama.
But that is exactly the problem. Sci-Fi stands for Science fiction, so giving the show a more real feel, ends up making it hypocritical unto itself.
The best part about science fiction is the things that are outside of the norm. Things that stretch the limits of our imagination. The only thing that has come close in this series, has been the ship, and even that has not been well presented. Lets face the basic plot here , it’s a futuristic broke down POS car, and the cast from “Scream” and “The Blair Witch Project” is stuck aboard and boring us to death. – AdamZ.

I continue to be shocked at everyone being disappointed with SGU, and to go so far as to knock the last episode (Time) which actually for me is now probably one of my absolute favorite Stargate episodes (any series). It was an instant classic. I am actually amazed at how good some the episodes are already considering (if you go back to 1st season episodes of SG-1 for example) it is still in its infancy.
As for “helping” the writers, I cannot think of anything that would drive this great ride straight into a horrible accident. Sure, if you think you can write something better, go ahead write something, but lets leave the professionals to their work.
Also I categorically deny the idea that “SciFi” is only good if its “unrealistic”. That idea is just so insipid that it scares me to think there are people who truly believe that. I guess those self-same people wouldn’t be able to appreciate truly great Science Fiction, like Tad Williams’ Otherland series or David Weber’s new Safehold series.
If Xena Warrior Princess in space is what you want, at least go watch Lexx or something and stop complaining.*
*Note: I actually did like Lexx, all hail the Brunnen-G.
Sub-Note: I do have to admit I despised most of Atlantis, the Wraith were totally retarded, anything having to do with Tayla or Dex felt like some racist “Token” characters put on the screen to be all barbaric. (Can’t they have people of color be civilized ever? yeesh), Sheppard was so annoying I couldn’t stand him, being just a lame version of O’Neil. Frankly the only good characters were McKay and what little we got of Carter. (Although I feel like Carter’s character was severely undermined and abused to not take the spotlight away from the lame characters on the show). /rant

Time was decent, but nothing special, an episode about changing the past was long ago done already for SG-1, multiple times.

Yam Snikpoh, You have right to your opinion but clearly you are in the minority. Ask any other Stargate fan and they will tell you they don’t like drama, especially this kind of drama.
The “Time” episode have been re-done so many time and this re-hash of that storyline is awful at best.
I read somewhere that the whole first season has already been shoot so we can expect more drama and bad writing. Week after week the ratings continue to drop and it’s just a matter of time before advertiser starts complaining about low viewer ship.
I’ll just wait for SG:Extinction movie to come out. At least that will be based on the two original series.

Well said .
Jonas thanks for the info about the SG Extinction didnt know there was a movie coming out .
At least that will give us something to look foward to as I cant stand to watch any more of these crap episodes of Stargate Universe .

just want to tell all the enraged fans: KEEP VOICING YOUR DISSAPOINTMENT. Eventually they’ll have to cave in and either change the show or cancel it. While I love stargate and I know that the show just could stay the same after we’ve discovered pretty much everything about the galaxy and surrounding space and defeated most of earth’s enemies, I would still like to see stargate stick to its guns and be a SCIFI show.

Ok, I just watched SGU episode “Life” with my son. So, I’m just going to bypass talking about the necessity of having certain relationships drawn out in detail … BUT … where is this show going?? “Life” doesn’t come across as a SciFi show … it was more like the ship “Destiny” should be called the “Love Boat”, because this episode was just a big soap opera in space. OK, so I can see this show is becoming more “adult” (like the new, re-cently ended, Battlestar Galactica) so I won’t let my younger kids watch all of the episodes … BUT … please don’t forgot to throw in some aliens and cool technology. For example: As part of this episode, we could have spent more time on the neuron chair, maybe even had Rush sit in it (he’s seems crazy enough so it would have made sense). That would have been a nice sub-plot while the rest of the soap opera stuff was going on. It’s hard to start a new show and let’s hope its all up hill from here!
