“The Thing” is right up there alongside “Alien” as among the very best Sci-fi/Horror flicks ever stamped on film and the prequel, floating around in the dreams of Universal bosses for some time, is about to start filming in March in sunny Toronto. In the original, science types in Antarctica led by Kurt Russell encounter a dog being chased by some crazy Norwegians in a helicopter. After the Norwegians accidental blow themselves up with a charge meant for the dog, the American scientists chock the whole thing up to some bizarre Nordic sport and take in the poor puppy. The dog turns out to be a really nasty shape-shifting alien from a crashed spaceship the Norwegians dug up.
It all goes predicatively from there. The original Thing was a real humdinger sonny. Matthijs van Heijningen, Jr. gets to direct the new Thing based on a script by Ronald D.
